Floppy Eared Bunny Basket Tutorial

Make this fun and whimsical bunny basket using paper and Stampin' Up punches and stamps.

Materials used -
Paper - Stampin' Up Wild Wasabi, Groovy Guava and Very Vanilla
Stamps - Stampin' Up Priceless and Warm Words
Punches- 1/8 inch circle, 1/4 inch circle, 1/2 inch circle, 1 1/4 inch circle, 1 1/2 inch circle, word window punch, scallop punch
Tape runner and Terrifically Tacky tape.
Ink - Stampin' Up Groovy Guava, Versa Mark

Start with a 5X6 inch piece of Wild Wasabi card stock. I stamped both sides using the small swirl stamp from Priceless, using Versa Mark ink.

Score one side at 1 1/2 inches, then 3 1/2 inches, turn the paper and make the same scores going the other direction. When you are finished, one side should have a wider section. Measure 1 inch from this side and cut 1 1/2 inches on top and again on bottom. Then use scissors to snip on fold line to remove the corners from the wide side. Next, make the additional cuts as shown in the picture above.

Sorry, some of the pictures below don't reflect this step, because I forgot to do it and had to go back. Use your 1 1/4 inch punch to make the semicircle cut-out, as shown in the finished basket at the top of the page. You can also round the corners of the wide section that sticks up in the back of the basket.

Now tape the front and back flaps together at the sides to start forming the basket. (see how I have forgotten to punch the semi-circle and round the corners?)

Next appy adhesive to the side panels and bring them up to complete the basic basket.

Take a scrap piece of Groovy Guava (or whatever color you choose) card stock and punch out a 1 1/4 inch circle. Using your scallop punch, line up the circle in the center and punch out the scallop.

Trim the scallop circle to fit the semi-circle and adhere to the basket. (Look, I finally realized I had forgotten the semi-circle and corner rounder, better late than never).

Next stamp a sentiment using Groovy Guava ink on Very Vanilla card stock. I used a stamp from Warm Words because I didn't have any Easter sentiments that fit the basket. Line that up in the word window punch and punch it out.

To make the backing for the word window punch out, cut a strip of Groovy Guava card stock slightly narrower that 1/2 inch. Using your 1/2 inch punch, slide one end of the strip of paper into the punch so that it rounds one end only. Then turn it around and do the same thing to the other side. To get the measurement right for this, hold the punched out word window against the Groovy Guava strip and slide it in until it looks right.

Adhere the sentiment to the backing and adhere to the basket.

Cut two strips of Very Vanilla card stock 3/4 inches by 6 inches. Use your craft scissors to shape one end of each strip as shown.

Cut two strips of Groovy Gauva 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches. Adhere to the Very Vanilla strips. These will be the bunny ears.

Next put some adhesive on the back of the basket as shown. I used Terrifically Tacky tape for this step because the ears are quite stiff after doubling up the card stock.

Next you will adhere the ears to the back of the basket, but first, play around with positioning and trim the ears if they seem too long.

Now pull the ears over to the sides and adhere using the Terrifically Tacky tape again.

For the bunny face, cut out one 1 1/2  Very Vanilla circle, two 1/2 inch white circles, one 1/2 inch Groovy Guava circle, two 1/4 inch black circles, one 3/16 Groovy Guava circle (I used my crop-a-dile for this since I don't have that punch size) and one 1/8 inch white circle. Cut the 1/8 inch Verry Vanilla circle in half.

Adhere the two half circles to the black circles to form the eyes (you could use a white gel pen for this step if you would like). Place the two 1/2 inch white circles together and snip a small amount away. Place snipped side to snipped side, they will form the bunny cheeks. Place some adhesive on the 1/2 inch Groovy Guava circle.

Carefully place the bunny cheeks on the mouth and then attach the eyes and 3/16 Groovy Guava circle to be the nose.

I colored the cheeks with a pink watercolor pencil and added whisker freckles using a fine tipped black pen. Attach the face to the 1 1/2 inch circle. Next attach the bunny head to the basket.

Now you should have something that looks like this.

If you give this project a try, please let me know what you think. Also, I would love to post pictures of your completed project.
