Selling Your Crafts Online




 
How do you do it? The obvious answer is eBay . Many people earn a considerable amount of money selling on eBay or other online merchant. Amazon and Overstock.com are a few other biggies. Ebay may be the best choice for crafters. They accept nearly everything out there, and have a market that is beyond enormous. Just sign up, follow the instructions and you're done. Just sit back and let your crafts sell themselves. 
You can try others like Amazon, although they may be more restrictive in terms of what they sell. 

There are a large number of online stores that you can sell through. Just search for ones that seem most suited to what you want to sell yourself. There is no huge commitment with this method of selling online with the exception that you must get any item sold shipped out to the customer asap.
Advantages to selling on ebay:
  • Simplicity
  • Low commitment
  • No start up cost
  • Flexibility
  • Brand Name Recognition (Ebay is huge and trusted)
Disadvantages to selling on ebay:
  • Your products could be lost in the sea that is ebay
  • No growth potential
  • Some loss of profit due to Ebay's cut
Another option is to sell your craft items or supplies on an online craft fair or craft mall. Etsy.com is probably the biggest of these types of websites. Etsy is free and easy to set up, although they, like Ebay, take a commission fee on your sales. You will be given your own online craft store which you can advertise and link to. You product will also become part of a pool of all the other craft stores on Etsy which can be accessed through their main website. More about Etsy...

This method may work best for you if you don't have a lot to sell and are just looking for a bit of cash in your pocket. If, however you are looking to start a substantial business for yourself, with a lot of potential for growth, you should consider starting your own craft website with an online store. A lot of people use Etsy or Ebay for their craft store and create a website and/or blog in addition and use that to direct people to their store.
