If you like the Criss Cross Card you will love this project.
I made this box using the same technique for the criss cross card. The overall diminsion of the box is 4 1/2Hx6Wx2D and it is the perfect size to hold about 10-15 notecards (4 x 5 1/2).
The figures below give the dimensions and cut and score lines that form the basic structure for the box. Use a sturdy card stock and strong adhesive for this project.
Start with an 8 1/2 by 8 1/2 inch piece of card stock and a 4 1/2 by 10 inch matching piece. You will also need to cut two pieces of coordinating printed paper 4 1/4 by 5 3/4 inches for the decorative front pieces.
Make a score line 2 inches in at each end of the 4 1/2 by 10 inch card stock. After you place the score lines, cut a diagonal from one score to the other. This will give you the two front/side panels as shown in Figure 2 above.
Important Note - If you are using card stock that is not the same on both sides you will have to start with two pieces that are 4 1/2 by 8, make the 2 inch score and then make a diagonal cut from one end of the score line to the opposite corner.
For the back/side panel, start with an 8 1/2 by 8 1/2 inch piece of card stock. Place a score line 1 1/4 inches in on each side of the paper. Place a score line on a third side 2 inches in and another 4 inches in, as shown in Figure 1 above.
You card stock should have score lines at 1 1/4 inches in on opposite sides, with a third side having score lines at 2 and 4 inches. The fourth side should have no score lines.
Now you need to make four cuts where your score lines intersect. These are indicated by the dashed lines in Figure 1 above.
Now it is time to start constructing your box. Bring the center tabs up and then fold the 2 inch section up. Add some adhesive to the two side tabs on the 2 inch section and attach to the center tabs.
Next add some adhesive to the bottom of the back side tabs. Fold the back panel up and attach the back side tabs to the center tabs.
At this point your box should look something like the picture above.
Now add adhesive to the outer edge of the front panel tabs. If you get adhesive too near the score line it will show after construction. Keep at least 3/4 inch near the score line clear of adhesive.
Now attach the front side panels to the back side panels. You box should now look like the picture above, with the criss cross portions sticking out.
Take your 4 1/4 by 5 3/4 inch decorative papers and place cut lines in opposite directions.
If you have some of the wonderful Stampin Up paper that is printed on both sides, you can get both of your decorative pieces from one rectangle. Just flip one piece over after you make your diagonal cut and you're all set.
Attach the printed triangles to the front flaps using adhesive or tape runner.
It would probably be easier to attach these to the front panels befor assembling the box, but this was the first time I have done this so I hadn't thought that far ahead.
Now just add adhesive to the front flaps and attach.
And here is the basic criss cross box before embellishment. I finished this one by adding a ribbon around the box and a medallion stamped using the flower stamp from Stampin' Up's Priceless set. See top photo.
