Getting Started

If you want to sell your crafts online you either need to create your own online store or sell them through an online merchant such as Ebay or Etsy.
Regardless of which avenue you choose, you will need...

  • Pictures of any items you want to sell.
  • A general description of any items you wish to sell. (color, size, quantity, weight, etc)
  • The ability to ship any items sold in a timely and economical manner
  • Possibly a PO Box for security reasons, it this a concern for you.
You will also need to determine how much to charge for anything you sell. Things to keep in mind when pricing your crafts...
  • Cost of materials
  • Complexity of design
  • Demand (is the market saturated with what you're selling or is it unique?)
  • Overhead (additional costs incurred- advertising, shipping, web hosting etc.)
  • Markups (if you are selling through eBay or another online store, you will need to allow for them the mark up your item.
It may be necessary for you to obtain a business license and resale license. You need to check your local codes. Remember it is always your responsibility to know, understand and follow any law and regulations relating to income and taxes.
