Here is a fun project that looks complicated but is really pretty simple. Give it a try to create a unique look for your handmade cards.
You'll need two pieces of 4 1/4 x 11 inch card stock.
Make the score lines as shown and then cut on the diagonal.
You should then have two pieces that are the mirror of each other. Each should be a rectangle with a triangular flap.
Now you'll attach the two rectangles. Use double sided craft tape to outline one of the rectangles and then place the other rectangle on top of the taped one.
Now you should have a single rectangle with a triangular flap on each side.
Next, cut patterned paper to place on the triangles. Cut a 4 x 5 inch piece of patterned paper is you are using double sided paper. If using single sided paper or the same paper, cut two 4 x 5 pieces.
Cut each rectangle on the diagonal, in opposite directions.
Use double sided tape to attach a triangle to each of the flaps.
Now tape each flap down, taking care to keep the tape as close to the edge of the paper as possible. If you are not careful with this step, the inset may not fit.
The outer portion of your criss cross card should now look something like the image below.
You can add embellishments at this point if you would like. I added a "paper button" by using a 1 1/4 inch punch and a 1 1/2 inch punch.
To make the carde insert, cut a 4 3/4 x 3 1/2 inch rectangle and a 3 3/4 x 5 inch rectangle. As an optional step you can round the corners.Center the smaller rectangle over the larger to make a border and tape down.
Embellish the card insert in whatever theme you are using. I used Stampin Up's "Be Merry" greeting sstamp from the Short & Sweet et and another Stampin Up stamp for the swirls from the Season of Joy set.
I also added two more circles using the 1 1/2 and 1 1/4 punches to use as a tab on the insert. You can use any number of different embellishments for this purpose, from buttons to beads.
