The Blog Alternative - Creating a Craft Blog

If creating your own website seems like too big a project or you’re just looking for something on a smaller scale, you can always just start your own blog.

A blog is a bit like having a portion of someone else’s website. You make entries in it much like a diary every day or as often as you like. Some people are now using them in place of websites. They sell things, trade links, write tutorials, you name it.

Most blog hosts are free and include templates to get you started. It is a simple process to have a blog. Just sign up and you should go through a very short setup. You can then manipulate the look and features on your site and start adding content. There are options for adding a variety of different page elements like images, links, text, rss feeds, HTML/Java scripts, newsreels and even adsense.

Any of the big blog hosts should have clear instructions to get you started. They should also have some kind of Frequently Asked Questions page and possibly even a forum for getting very specific information and help.

You might also want to consider creating a blog in addition to a website or store. It can serve to direct customers to your store or website. You can update your blog regularly with content that is relevant to your site or store as a means of having a quality link to your site.

If you would like to set up and blog you can find step by step instructions for creating your own craft blog here.

Here are a few links to blog hosts…

https://www.blogger.com/start AKA Blogspot.com. This is google folks, and very user friendly. This is my favorite. It is a bit limited compared to Wordpress, but allowing Adsense and other affiliate advertising is a hudge plus.

http://wordpress.com/  A bit more technically difficult that Blogspot, but more flexibility. One negative to Wordpress is they don't allow Adsense or other ad revenue on their free blogs. You can upgrade for a price and be able to use Adsense. The upside to them is a much better template selection and you can create a blog that is almost indistinguishable from a regular website.

http://blog.com/ A very popular blog host, although I haven't tried them.
